Description

Nelson Construction performed all of the concrete work on the Queensgate Columbia Trail Roundabout for this City of Richland project headed up by Culbert Construction. The project involved highly coordinated pours totaling 800 yards. Nelson Construction built a mile of new roadway, sidewalks, ADA ramps, and bike ramps. There were eight kinds of curbs with rolled curb transitions, along with stamp concrete.

Challenges

This is a critical, high-volume intersection. To ensure minimal impact to vehicle traffic, Nelson Construction worked swing shifts with up to 20 men. Work on the site went from 2 a.m. to 2 p.m. Trucks poured from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. to clear the way for morning commuters.
